FX Series, Yet to be Released

Production Designer: Kate BunchLead Painter: Jesse Siono Will share more when show is released. But what a fun job! Worked on this hallway from start to finish, from base coat to final aging. Didn't do door. Detail in hallway. Painted tile base, and did aging in sink. Aging. Fake rocks, painted to blend in with rocks at location. Real rock on location that was covered in graffiti.
Kill Bill 1 & 2

My job: Set Painter/ Scenic Artist/ Gang BossProduction Designer: David WascoLead Painter: Laurel Pickering Kill Bill was originally supposed to be one film. But then it went something like 9 months over schedule, and legend has it there was about 24 hours of film. So, Kill Bill 2 was not another production, it was just a solution to a problem. With a very happy ending! As far as two successful movies. Yes, there are stories to tell. It was a lot of fun. I am super bummed that I didn’t get better pictures, and pictures of more work. While production was in Japan, fellow painter Jen Bolitho and I spent months in Culver City hand-painting fake props for Viveca A. Fox to smash up in her fight scene – things like display plates and Tiffany Lamps, meticulously painted in historical detail. And then, watching the film, those scenes go by so fast with the scenery instantly getting obliterated. Oh, well. It was still a great job to work on.

Forever Eden

Reality TV Show/ Fox Television Job title: Lead Painter, with Wendy JerdeOn location in Port Antonio, Jamaica We moved into an existing resort that had been shuttered since the 80s! Construction rebuilt it and redesigned it, while Wendy and I painted it, but then did a scenic job to make it look aged and worn down again. (Aged, but now clean and colorful) Then construction built a fake temple, with sculpted elephants. Elephants and stone construction were all foam, that we then painted to look like stone.

Miscellaneous Film & TV I

A mish-mash here, all as lead painter. Academy Awards opening films (several years in a row), Mexican Captain Crunch commercial, The Chimp Channel, (tv series), and two feature films: The Dogwalker, and Shade. The Dogwalker was an indie film, where I was Lead Painter AND Art Director. One of the videos for Billy’s Opening Film (2004) which is mostly featured below, can be seen here.
Miscellaneous Film & TV II

Various set painting jobs from the past. Honestly, I don’t remember what some of these jobs were. The “colorful” sets are from Nickelodean, working on All That. (These sets just got coverage again in the HBO documentary “Quiet on Set”). Also featured, feature film, Orange County, and kid’s drawings I did while working on White Oleander. Oh yes, and the bunny hutch! That was a super fun job, but for a kid’s show I do not remember.
IATSE Kick-Off Rally

Spent my birthday at the IATSE rally to kick off negotiation with the AMPTP. Hoping things go better than last year with the actors/ writers strike! Here is a Hollywood Reporter arcticle about it. It was fun running into old friends I haven’t worked with in ages. We all were wearing our IATSE merchandise – and I even made a special t-shirt for Violet, who has an interest in acting, directing, and editing. So, all these fights are for her future! I realize I never posted photos from last summer when she joined me on the writer’s picket line. Man, I hope these weird times pay off and we’re not just wasting our time encouraging her to apply for film school. She was raised on sets, so it’s all she knows. The t-shirt I made my kid (and the front has a chest emblem that says “The Future is Female”), and pics from last summer at the picket line. Also made her a t-shirt then! It says “Future WGA Member”.
